MELBOURNE: Craft Victoria has revealed plans to host a showcase of Marian Hosking's work. The organisation - whose remit is to enhance awareness of Australian craft and design at state, national and international levels - will hold an exhibition on the renowned jeweller from July 3 to August 2.

Marian Hosking: Jewellery is the third of an exhibition series dubbed 'Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft', celebrating the achievements of senior craft practitioners.

With a career spanning almost 40 years, Hosking was one of Australia’s foremost contemporary jewellers and silversmiths and had exhibited nationally and internationally as well as achieving representation in numerous collections, a Craft Victoria spokesperson said.

Working primarily in silver, her work was concerned with rich surface patterns and textures, reflecting her concern with the natural environment and allowing her to echo the forms and motifs found in nature.

As a practitioner and educator, Hosking’s influence had been far-reaching, having established the first jewellery course at Charles Sturt University in 1973, before going on to establish her own studio in Melbourne in 1976 and co-found Workshop 3000 in 1981. She had also lectured at RMIT and was currently head of metal and jewellery at Monash University.

Located in Galleries 1, 2 and 3 of Craft Victoria's headquarters at 31, Flinders Street, Melbourne CBD, Hosking's Living Treasures exhibition would include new jewellery pieces, vessels and a large-scale sculptural work.
