MELBOURNE: Men's suiting brand Tony Barlow is looking to resurrect its Victorian consumer base.

The Western Australia-based retailer has been out of the Melbourne market for quite some time but has announced its intention to ramp up operations via the opening of two new stores in the city under the Platinum Menswear and Tony Barlow Formal Hire banners.

The self-appointed 'king of suits' has just opened a Platinum Menswear store in the QV precinct in the Melbourne CBD. It follows an earlier opening of a Tony Barlow Formal Hire boutique in Toorak in South Yarra.

The store now brings the Platinum and Tony Barlow stable to six with four existing sites in Perth. As with all the Platinum and Tony Barlow Hire stores, the Victorian boutiques will also feature iconic brands Marc Coleman, Studio Italia and Kenneth Blake.

"Suits are about comfort, quality and style. Melbourne embodies these things and more. It is the fashion capital of Australia and it is great to be back," he said.

Barlow would not be drawn on future store expansion except to confirm he would look at these on a "case by case" basis.
