NATIONAL: The chairman of wool marketing group Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has resigned.

Ian McLachlan will remain on the board as a director  but has previously indicated he will not seek a seat on the board at the group's next annual general meeting,

He will be replaced by deputy chairman Brian can Rooyen.

In other moves directors have also passed a resolution to increase the size of the AWI board from seven to 10 in what the group claims will bring a better balance of "global business, finance, marketing and product innovation experience".

As a result, Ken Boundy, Robyn Clubb and John Kniry have each secured positions on the board.
