MELBOURNE: Just Group has confirmed the appointment of Bronwyn Constance as a director and audit committee chairman.
In a statement Just Group confirmed Constance - whose appointment followed the retirement of Alison Watkins from the board - was the preferred choice for the role. Her selection followed a protracted search for a professional with board experience and financial and accounting skills necessary for the role of audit committee chair.
Constance was director and chairman of the audit committees of Plantic Technologies and the Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Austomotovie Technologies, as well as director of The Melbourne Markets Authority. She had 30 years of financial and accounting experience including CFO or equivalent roles at Austrim Nylex, Pasminco and Kraft, the statement confirmed.
Discussions over her appointment were at an advanced stage when the unsolicited Premier takeover was announced earlier this month. Despite the offer it was important that Just Group - whose brands include Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Jacqui E, Peter Alexander, Portmans, Dotti and Smiggle - continued with business as usual and her appointment was consistent with that philosophy, the statement said.
