MELBOURNE: Luxury knitwear brand Cable Melbourne has secured a covetable contract with US sales agency Class.
Headed up by Australian born Jacqueline Lee Rose – known in the US market as a source for southern hemisphere talent – and Carol Hoffman – whose career includes key positions at top US department stores, LA based agency Class had a strong reputation for promoting Australian design talent, a spokesperson confirmed.
Cable's signing with the agency – following its successful participation in Australian Government export body Austrade's G’Day USA Designer Showcase event in January - has seen it showing to buyers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle and NYC in recent weeks.
A number of high recall US boutiques have already confirmed orders for the coming season, including Chicago based Ultimo Boutique, which carries labels including Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Lacroix and John Galliano.
Cable designer Georgie confirmed the Cable website had been re-designed and updated to include current collections, information on new stockists and media coverage in anticipation of increased international interest.
An online store would be launched over the longer term, offering transeasonal collections year round, as well as essential basics and a limited collection of accessories including scarves and wraps.
Made in Melbourne using premium Australian Merino wools and imported Italian bamboo, silk, and cotton yarns, Cable's spring/summer 2009 collection will be available in August from around 40 Australian boutiques, including Cactus Jam (VIC), Husk (VIC), Eco D (VIC, SA, NSW), Filly and Mare (VIC), Fragile (NSW, VIC), Elle (WA), Emporia (WA) and Directions (NSW).
