BRISBANE: Fanny Lam is shopping for stores.

The womenswear designer is currently looking for retail site for her first Australian flagship store, which will open later this year.

"At the moment Fanny is looking at possibilities in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane," a spokesperson confirmed, adding it was likely Lam's retail presence would ultimately extend to more than one store.

A retail presence would provide the right brand environment to showcase Fanny Lam's self-named womenswear brand, as well as the more recently created younger women's offering OnStage Australia.

Launched in 2006 "for the young woman who looks for transitional, exquisite pieces that are distinctive yet classic," the OnStage Australia range was inspired by exotic eastern influences blended with Australian style, said designer Fanny Lam.

"The OnStage Australia collection is my diffusion line and is a natural progression from the Fanny Lam Australia range. It is for girls who don’t want to conform and want to stand out from the crowd. I try to create styles that are unique and diverse, so there is something for everyone’s taste."

OnStage Australia's autumn/winter 2008 collection features a palette of jewel turquoise, chocolate brown, rich burgundy, olive, purple and black, with key pieces including an empire-line dress in sheer chiffon overlaid on a floral print, 'Diane von Furstenberg' style wrap dresses, dress coats and fitted jackets. 

Fanny Lam Australia and OnStage Australia are now stocked in over 150 boutiques across Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. As well as opening branded retail stores in Australia, it is understood Lam is also looking to expand her export market over the short to medium term.
