MELBOURNE: Only a label called Romance Was Born could aspire to re-creating the most mythic garden of all time.

The Sydney label has collaborated with artist Del Kathryn Barton to create exotic exhibition Garden of Eden, featuring clothing from Romance Was Born and prints from Barton.

Launched on March 3 at the ShowBox Gallery as part of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) cultural program, Garden of Eden would showcase one-off designs from Romance Was Born’s autumn winter 08 collection, a spokesperson said.

"The new collection has been created alongside the label’s collaborative partner Del Kathryn Barton and incorporates fabric designs from Barton’s latest body of work."

Founded by Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett, Romance Was Born debuted in 2006, and had since gained a reputation for its eccentricity and theatrical approach.

"Sales and Plunkett invent tall tales through elaborately-designed garments while spinning adventurous ranges and seasonal collections from a web of whimsical yarns."

Filling the ShowBox Gallery – located in Melbourne's National Design Centre at Federation Square - with giant Eden inspired installations, Garden of Eden will run until April 27 as part of the centre's 2008 exhibition program.

The exhibition was designed to offer an insight into the inspiration and practices behind contemporary Australian fashion design, the spokesperson said.
