SYDNEY:Boutique shopping destination The Strand has thrown its support behind the next generation of Australian designers.
The Ipoh-operated complex kicked off its Future Directions Exhibition this week, showcasing the works of select fashion students and graduates from the TAFE NSW Fashion Design Studio.
On show throughout the month of March, the exhibition is spread across three levels of The Strand and includes the 2008 TAFE Croser Award winning gown by Hayley Adlam. The Award, which recognises outstanding achievements in the field of haute couture, was handed to Adlam for her Chinese-inspired evening dress which featured bright orange silk organza, dramatic floor-length drop sleeves and a collar that folds into Chinese knotting and wraps around the waist.
Also on display is a 1940s cocktail dress by recent graduate Ashlea Jade Warren and third-year student Naomi Wilson's two-piece tailored jacket.
The Future Directions Exhibition will be on show until March 30 during standard trading hours.
