SYDNEY: University of Technology graduate Rachael Cassar has set the benchmark and is now encouraging others to follow suit.
Since being named the first Australian ever to win Italy's prestigious International Mittelmoda Fashion Competition last September, the Sydney-based designer has gone from strength to strength after being awarded 10,000 Euros in prize money.
Having showcased her work at the Green Pages Runway Show in Sydney in November, Casser - a former Lancome Colour Design Competition winner - has also been named as the featured designer at the Climate Expo Fashion Show in April in Melbourne.
Still reaping the rewards from her own win, Cassar is now hopeful of a repeat performance with competition organisers now searching for a new up and comer to take out the 16th edition of the awards taking place September 12 and 13.
A call for entry will be made in the next week with the deadline for submitting the enrolling material and the portfolios by the end of May. It is anticipated the selections of the finalists will be held in June, with the collections of accessories and oufits ready to be handed in by the finalists themselves upon their arrival in Gorizia for the September finals event.
