MELBOURNE: Two inner city talents have come together to make something beautiful.
Fine artist turned high fashion designer Alexi Freeman has harnessed the flair of local branding company Platform5 for his autumn/winter 08 look book, in a bid to drive his collection to a broader international audience, a spokesperson for the designer confirmed.
"Platform5 saw the range and decided to assist Alexi to represent his garments in an internationally appealing manner. Previously, Alexi has relied on friends and contacts to produce his look book. [But it's not just a question of producing] beautiful garments, the way you choose to represent them through look book images is imperative to the success of the season."
Freeman's latest collection features premium natural fibres and bold silhouettes designed to be "simultaneously casual, sexy and alluring". Described as "secretarial…with a twist" the look features leathery finish oiled cotton fabrications and oversized pussy bows.
Another feature was the versatile nature of the collection, the spokesperson confirmed.
"The Grecian evening dress for example, can be worn rotationally, off the shoulder and in a number of ways due to the versatility of the bat sleeve silhouette, in combination with the militaristic detailing of the epaulets."
With previous professional incarnations including oil painter, printmaker and costume designer, Freeman launched his first clothing line in May 2005.
“My quest is to make a contribution to the vernacular of fashion through garments that are modern, impeccably made and finished with the finest materials and techniques available,” he said.
