BRISBANE: Australian womenswear designer George Wu is planning to sink his teeth into the Big Apple later this month (January).
The Brisbane-based wholesaler has lined up buyers from New York department store Barneys, Searle and Neiman Marcus as part of an autumn/winter 2008 showing for the annual G'day USA event.
Wu, who currently distributes to select range of boutiques across the American market, has also locked in appointments with editorial teams from Elle and Harper's Bazaar in a bid to increase his international profile.
"This is an amazing opportunity to take my label to the next level and see our potential to survive and thrive in this highly competitive market," he said. "To even be on the watch list for these buyers will be incredible."
Wu's autumn/winter 2008 collection, dubbed 'The Guardians', is inspired by gothic and medieval themes with intricate folding details and a palette of black, white, blue and red.
The designer will show his collection at an exclusive showroom in New York from January 23.
