MELBOURNE: Online vintage womenswear retailer Dorothy & Evelyn has revealed plans to broaden its scope to men's and children's clothing.

Dorothy & Evelyn will launch high-end vintage menswear onto the site in early February while childrenswear site Dot & Eve is also scheduled to launch in the coming months.

According to owner and founder Rebecca Post, Dorothy & Evelyn boasts a "treasure over trash" ethos, with labels such as Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel and Dior handpicked from all over the world, from London's Portobello Road to the markets of Paris.

Post, who developed a passion for vintage shopping while at RMIT University in Brunswick, Melbourne, said she had always "loved" vintage clothes.

"At the time there were all these amazing vintage stores nearby, so I just kind of found my way there."

The former Witchery buyer, who officially launched her concept late last year at Motorola Spring Fashion Week, claimed operating an online store required business nous and organisational skills as much as passion.

“It’s about knowing what the customer wants and what information they need,” she said, adding each piece in the site's 3000-strong collection was painstakingly photographed and exact specifications given, including size, shape and colour.

Named after Post's two grandmothers, Dorothy & Evelyn harked back to an era at odds with today's disposable fashion, she said.

"I love my grandmothers' style; they come from the generation that half of these clothes came from. [The name] just suited so perfectly and of course, I adore them both!"
