MELBOURNE: Highpoint shopping centre is set to continue its fashion publicity drive with the launch of an in-house exhibition on clothing and culture.
The Urban Culture Installation – to be unveiled on January 21, 2008 will comprise a series of displays showcasing the evolution of street culture through fashion, music and art over the last fifty years.
Costumes on display were authentic vintage from the 1950's to 2000, a Highpoint spokesperson confirmed.
"For example the 1950's series will display an original 50’s black and white polka prom dress with black tulle, diamante necklace and long black gloves and black 50’s pointed toe shoes. The 60's display will show an original red and white check dress with matching pea coat teamed with cream hosiery and red and cream vintage shoes."
The displays would also showcase images detailing key cultural and music movements including the Beatniks, Rock'n'Roll, the Mod and Hippy eras, Disco, SKA, Punk, Rock and House music, the spokesperson said, adding cinema giant Hoyts at Highpoint planned to launch an Urban Cult Film Festival to complement the exhibition, with movies including Napoleon Dynamite, Donnie Darko and Pulp Fiction.
The exhibition and supporting attractions are among Highpoint's first fashion events after it unveiled enhancements to its fashion offering in October 2007, starting with the opening of branded outlets including Saba, Ojay, Country Road, Vicious Threads, French Connection, Sportscraft and Oroton.
