Zambesi uniforms get another slamming

AUCKLAND: New Zealand ready-to-wear label Zambesi has been described as many things – but "too pale" is probably not one of them.

The Auckland-headquartered brand, which was commissioned to create Air New Zealand's cabin crew uniforms in 2005, has been accused of using an unflattering color palette by the commercial airliner's chief executive.

Rob Fyfe alleged that while the predominantly teal and schist coloured uniform looked good on darker skinned employees, it "washed out" the company's European staff.

Fyfe said the uniform would be changed to a darker shade and some accessories such as scarves would be updated as part of the overhaul.

This is not the first time the Zambesi uniform has come under fire following criticisms it was too difficult to keep clean, is easily creased and unflattering on larger sized staff.

A final decision on the latest uniform change is expected to be made early next month.
