MELBOURNE: Luxury knitwear label Cable Melbourne is readying itself for its first foray into the US market.

The label – which specialises in high quality fashion knitwear for the boutique market – has been selected to participate in government export body Austrade's G'Day USA Designer Event in New York in January.

According to Cable head designer and founder Georgina Sutton it was hoped the locally made label –  which uses Australian Merino wools and imported Italian bamboo, silk and cotton yarns – would gain invaluable exposure to the high end knitwear retail market in the US through the venture, boosted by its unique selling points of quality and style.

"Pitched at the premium womenswear market, Cable knits are investment pieces, created to be flattering comfortable and effortlessly stylish. I want to make dressing easy and uncomplicated," she said.

Following G'Day USA the label will release its autumn/winter 2008 collection to Australian retail in March. With prices ranging from $199 for a vest to $499 for a long double-breasted coat, the range will be available through stockists including Cactus Jam, Filly and Mare and Husk (Vic), Directions (NSW), Fragile (Vic and NSW), Emporia (WA) and Eco D (Vic, SA and NSW).
