NEW ZEALAND:  Auckland-based designer Karen Walker is set to create more in her image after agreeing to take on two new assistants.

The high profile designer has named Devonport designer Denise Isaacs as her new design assistant with Wellington-based Elizabeth Wilson being offered a six month work experience placement.

The placements were part of Air New Zealand's Inspiring New Zealanders programme launched in 2005.

Issacs, a mother of two, has previously worked alongside Marc Jacobs in the accessories design department of Louis Vuitton.

Likening herself to her new employer's muse for her 2007 spring/summer collection - the 1930's comic book Super Heroine - Issacs said she often feels she is living a double life.

"[The position] will allow me to work alongside, and study, a designer I greatly admire. Karen Walker is an iconic New Zealand designer and an astute businesswoman. Her knowledge, support and guidance as a mentor will be extremely valuable which I hope will ultimately assist me to launch and establish a rewarding fashion career of my own."

Isaacs prize package includes a return ticket from New Zealand to anywhere on the Air New Zealand international network as well as one international business trip.

Wilson is a 25-year-old graduate of Massey University's fashion design school.
