SYDNEY: Department store Myer has announced plans to open a new store in northern Sydney.

Set to welcome the public in 2010, the Top Ryde store will take the total number of outlets in the brand's retail portfolio to 67 - just 13 short of the target cited by Myer CEO Bernie Brookes.

The move follows the announcement the privately-owned company will open additional stores at Eastgardens and Bankstown.

Myer corporate affairs spokesman Mitch Catlin said the decision on where to site the new stores recognised the strong expansion potential of the New South Wales market to the company.

Catlin said the Myer Top Ryde store would measure 10,550 square metres and would feature national, international and private brands.

Australian designers aligned with Myer include Wayne Cooper, Camilla & Marc, Nicola Finetti, Tony Maticevski, Charlie Brown and Bettina Liano.

Other new store openings slated for the brand include North lakes (QLD) in 2008 and Townsville set to open in 2009.
