NATIONAL: The currency of Australian fashion in Indonesia is set to dramatically improve following a special fashion parade in Jakarta tomorrow.

At least 12 Australian designers will feature in the parade including Alannah Hill, Kirrily Johnson, Alice McCall, Nicola Finetti, Tina Kalivas and Willow. Ragtrader TNT Fashion Retailer of the Year Awards guest speaker Josh Goot is also expected to have designs featured.

It is understood the event, staged in Kemang by the Australian Embassy, is aimed at showcasing Australian fashion to a broader audience following the country's increased presence at events such as Australian Fashion Week.

Austrade Jakarta spokesperson  Audrey Orielle described Indonesia as the "untold Australian success story" after Indonesian buyers made nearly 60 major deals at this year's Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW) in April.

Orielle said Indonesian consumers were brand brand-conscious and therefore it was important for Australian designers to offer alternatives for this market.

"Indonesian buyers are getting more familiar with Australian labels and knowing they will be supported within the market is one of the reasons they consider Australian labels."

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer said he was "delighted" with the opportunity to bring the collections, all of which went on show during RAFW, to Indonesia.

"Many of the designers showcasing their work in Jakarta have attracted international acclaim for their fresh and innovative designs and strong branding."
