Unzipped - Rebecca Thompson
Name
Rebecca Thompson
Age
33
Position
Director of Rebecca Thompson
My childhood dream job
Running my own business and designing women's clothing. I was five-years-old sitting in church with my parents, drawing out of boredom when I decided that this was what I was going to do when I grow up
My first job
I can't remember if it was waitressing, selling bread at Bakers Delight or modelling for a plus size magazine. I had plenty of part time jobs whilst at school
My big break
My first order under the Rebecca Thompson label
My biggest risk
Leaving art school to pursue a real job in a fashion
My biggest fashion faux pas
Being a fashion victim in my teens. The terrible part is that there is photographic evidence
My mentor
I have a friend Markus who is my main mentor. He helps me work out what is important for the growth and longevity of my business
If I wasn't in fashion I'd be
A coffee barista
My idea that never took off
Wearing leather jackets in the heat of summer. It was part of my fashion victim teen years, and yes there are photos
If I could do it over
No changes. My aim is to listen to my market, create something that I feel good about, that looks beautiful on & that will sell well when it hits the store floor
In my spare time I
Love to have dinner parties and cook
People would be surprised to know I
Own a pack of Barbie UNO cards and was rejected from RMIT fashion design three times
I want my epitaph to say
Coco Chanel's quote: "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous."
