MELBOURNE: One of Australia's leading shopping centre's is aiming to set a billion dollar record.

Chadstone The Fashion Capital - a retail complex which houses nearly 400 stores including Myer, David Jones, Alannah Hill, Lisa Ho, Morrissey, Mossimo, Jigsaw, Kookai and Max & Co – has just opened an adjoining 'Loop Mall' containing an additional 44 new stores. The new mall extends from Kmart in a loop shape and re-enters the main centre at the Toys R US store.

Centre Manager Stephen deWaele estimated the Loop Mall would assist its goal of being the first retail shopping centre to turnover $1 billion before the end of this financial year.

"We have a strong vision for the future growth of Chadstone Shopping Centre and the Loop Mall forms a significant part of this."

deWaele said the new mall would provide Chadstone with increased diversity and a broader portfolio of retailers. Brands opening within the Loop Mall include Mag Nation, Best & Less, Jeep, Jett Surf, Pure Indulgence, Sportsco and Noni B.

"We are extremely proud of the Chadstone team who have been involved in delivering this new mall," deWaele said. "[We] look forward to welcoming customers into the centre to explore our expanded retail offer."

An additional 400 car spaces have been constructed to support the launch of the Loop Mall, which has now brought the total of Chadstone retail stores to 440.
