SYDNEY: Luxury fashion designer Carl Kapp will utilise his recent win at the inaugural Chambord Shine Awards to promote his growing eveningwear division.
The South African-born designer beat 10 finalists earlier this month, including Friedrich Gray designer Ben Pollitt and Antipodium directors Geoffrey Finch and Fenella Peacock, to score a double page advertorial spread in fashion magazine Marie Claire.
The finalists were commissioned to create a "Chambord inspired" outfit on a budget of $1000, with designers Kirrily Johnston and Joe Farage among a five-strong judging panel.
Sydney-headquartered Kapp, who counts actresses Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman among his celebrity clients, said recognition for his eveningwear entry couldn't have come at a better time.
"We plan to further develop the eveningwear component of the business to offer a bigger variety of innovative dresses," he said a day after his coup. "We are preparing to do a salon-style fashion show next year to really capture the essence of the brand."
Publicity generated from the award would also help drive to traffic at Kapp's recently launched online store. Three separate lines are offered on the e-boutique - Classic, Bridal and Creative - which supplements the brand's select but growing wholesale division.
Launched in Australia over the autumn/winter 2006 season, the label is offered in 15 domestic and international stores including KJ's Laundry in London and Becker Minty in Sydney. It is manufactured locally from premium fabrications such as wool, silk, cotton and cashmere with price points generally ranging from $240 for a shirt to $2400 for a wedding gown.
Kapp aimed to showcase the brand's emphasis on detailing through its salon-style parade next year.
"We feel an intimate show is the right avenue for the brand as the intricate details on each garment will be much more visible to the audience," he said.
Prior to launching the brand, Kapp worked for international designer brands Kenzo and Donna Karan and local label Trent Nathan.
