NATIONAL: Discount department store Target has broken with tradition for the next instalment of its 'Designers for Target' program.
The program, which launched with a collaborative collection from UK giant Stella McCartney in autumn/winter 2008, is set to plug two new-generation designers over the next season.
Womenswear designers Gail Sorronda and Yeojin Bae will both front the spring/summer campaign with their collection of garments, shoes, swimwear and accessories hitting stores from October 13.
Bae, who's national profile soared after she secured international department stores Selfridges, Barneys and Harvey Nichols within a year of her label's launch, has taken a romantic skew with her line, designing a range of vintage-inspired dresses in fuchsia, turquoise, lemon, violet, forest and black. Detailing includes embroidery and sequined trims while a '40s cut-out wedge has been colour matched to suit the bright dresses.
Sorronda, known for her monochromatic statement pieces, has taken the opposite direction with a stark palette of black, white and red and designs featuring structural pleating, rouching and ruffles. Her range consists of retro-style dresses, voluminous blouses, jersey knits, 50s swimwear and accessories such as sunglasses, a sequined bag and kitten ear headbands.
Prices for both collections range from $50 for tops, $70 for swimwear and $150 for dresses. The designs, available from October 13, will be showcased in a series of pop-up shows across Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney shopping centres from October 21.
