Myer's Young Modern
David Jones' spring/summer collections were an ode to the saturated sights and sounds of the French Riveria - stretching across Cannes, Cap Ferrat, St Tropez, Nice, Menton - then Myer's own offerings were a complete antithesis of this.
Staged inside the sparse interiors of Sydney's Carriage Works, an old railway site in the heart of Eveleigh, the theme was largely bereft of colour with a white 34 metre runway, a suspended staircase and a dark seating area dominating the scene.
The staircase, a series of luminous blocks hanging from the ceiling by wires, dipped, swerved and shifted throughout the evening as models decked in the likes of Josh Goot, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester and Gorman made their way down the catwalk.
It was at this point - and this point only - that audiences were treated to a spectacle of colour. Purple, yellow and white jersey frocks from Josh Goot, bright green peacock creations from Charlie Brown and an explosion of red and orange ruffles from Nevenka were just some of the highlights.
Hemlines were generally cropped to the thigh or flowing around the ankles with shifts, tunics, maxi and trapeze dresses a hot favourite for summer. Myer's newest recruit, eveningwear designer Jayson Brunsdon, bucked all trends with timeless couture pieces in elegant hues of purple, orange and blue.
