SYDNEY: International label stable Nuovo clearly enjoys all things Mediterranean.
Just weeks after saying 'bon journo' to plus-size Italian brand Elena Miro, the Sydney distributor has unleashed a second European label into the Australian market.
It is anticipated the introduction of the new knitwear brand will help the Surry Hills-based company fill the gap left by the departure of its previous Spanish import - Aldo Martin's.
Dubbed Sweaterhouse, the Barcelona-based label was developed by a father and daughter team in 1986 and has since garnered an international reputation for its unique combination of fantasy prints, rich fabrics and diverse shapes and finishes.
It has agents in 12 countries and is currently stocked right across Europe and the US with its success overseas seen as the key motivation for a push into the Australasian market.
Aimed at women aged 25-plus, the Sweaterhouse range includes tops, cardigans, T-shirts, vests and sweater-shirts with the Australian collection mirroring the European offering.
Wholesale price points vary between $65 for a cotton v-neck tank and $165 for a light knit button up jumper. Manufactured in Spain from a mix of wool blends, cotton and jersey blends and viscose, it will be available in European sizes one to five (Australian sizes six to 14).
Nuovo spokesperson Jane McWilliam said the brand - touted as a "creative range for women who are looking for something more than a basic" - would be positioned alongside Australian designers Lisa Ho and Marco Polo.
From an international perspective, key competitors would be Trelise Cooper, Nolita, Custo and Nougat, McWilliam said.
Showing throughout March and April, the brand will sit alongside Fenn Wright Manson, Hardy Amies and Escorpion as Nuovo's core brands.
