Footwear label shrinks by request

An international footwear brand is celebrating the fact it will soon be producing a new line of happy campers.
Having been plagued by requests for a children's footwear line for the past decade, Spanish label Camper is set to introduce a new kids-sized collection to Australian audiences.
Timed to coincide with the Northern Hemisphere's spring launch date, the new line, selling now, is expected to be available in Australian stores from mid-August.
Camper Australasia licensee Peter Attrill said the 'Camper for Kids' line had first been mooted around 15 years ago but had been put on hold while the brand consolidated its international retail portfolio.
Now boasting than 100 stores internationally - including one in Auckland that opened three weeks ago - the design team had decided the time was ripe to cash in on the boom in childrenswear and produce the range, he said.
Targeted at children aged between two and 12, the range boasts 180 different styles, many of which are modelled on adult versions.
"High-tech solutions have been applied that adapt specifically to the needs of children but like the adult range, the childrens' line will be made from natural fabrications with inner souls made of coconut husk."
Manufactured across Europe as well as in China, the brand's spring/summer line includes the signature look of long-term Camper collaborator Javier Mariscal, who created unique graphics especially for the range.
"They're about half the price of the adults - but they're never going to be commercially priced. With 80 per cent of the product reinvented every six months, there's simply too much going into it.
"They'll definitely be an 'emotional purchase'."
Attrill said consumer interest in the range had been strong, with many customers having read about the launch off the company's website.
