Classic get cricketing double
Less than 12 months after wrestling the licence for New South Wales Cricket training apparel off rival Daylight Sportswear, the Sydney-based company has also snared the same rights for its Queensland counterpart.
Camperdown-headquartered Classic beat off stiff competition, thought to include incumbent Emu Sports, to win the licence which will see it provide training outfits for the Queensland men's and women's sides as well as all the state's age group teams.
The contract, for an undisclosed sum, includes outfitting the teams for all training apparel including polos, T-shirts, caps and track suits.
Both new and existing product will be manufactured in China and then shipped on site in June.
Classic sales manager Aidan Meacham said the company was busy developing new product for both organisations, which he expected to be unveiled in July - prior to the sides' recommencing training for the summer 2007/08 season.
It is understood all gear provided for the two sides will also be offered for sale via the associations' websites and major sporting retailers Rebel Sport and Amart.
Retail price points are expected to range from $25 for a cap through to $90 for a tracksuit top.
Meacham said having secured the two wins, Classic was now in a position to approach the country's other state cricketing associations - including Victoria and Western Australia - in an attempt to provide a similar service.
He the event marked a significant turning point for the wholesaler - that despite working closely with some surf life saving organisations and Bowls associations - focussed primarily on winter sports.
