Cable looks to make knitwear easy
After five years spent working across major labels such as Country Road and Nicholson, the former head designer boasts a portfolio of stylish knits, skirts, coats and dresses.
And now, she intends putting it all to good use. Drawing on her experiences in both the retail and boutique apparel sectors, Sutton is gearing up for the launch of her own knitwear brand 'Cable Melbourne' in July.
Sutton said the brand, pitched at the premium womenswear market, aims to fill a perceived gap for cleverly designed pieces in high quality fabrics.
"Knitwear is a category that I have always loved and Cable knits will be real investment pieces. It caters for women who prefer pure styling, attention to detail and beautifully made pieces."
The debut collection, which will make its first drop in August, has been created using fine Australian and Italian yarns in a palette of milky reds, crisp whites, dark chocolates, corals, washed cobalts and grey marle. Bamboo mixed back with merino wool will be one of the key highlights of the brand's first launch, Sutton said.
Over a dozen fully-fashioned knitwear pieces ranging from trenches, dresses, boleros and cardis will appear in the range with an additional line featuring original prints in jersey. The prints, exclusively designed by Sutton, include stylised block flowers in bold, primary colours.
Manufactured entirely in Melbourne, Cable is targeted at "women who aren't concerned with fashion fads" with prices starting at $99 for basic jersey knits to $599 for trenches.
While Sutton has yet to confirm any stockists, she said consumers can expect to see the first range in stores nationally by August 2007.
