MELBOURNE: It is a truth universally known that standout fashion design talent is nothing without a sizeable dollop of business nous.
With this in mind, aspiring fashion designers will have the chance to test their business mettle as LetsNetwork - the search for Australia's most business savvy fashion design students - gets underway during L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF).
Taking place on March 7 LetsNetwork will see 10 students matched 'speed dating-style' with 10 industry professionals and given three minutes to make a lasting impression.
The scheme is the brainchild of leading shopping website and LMFF sponsor LetsShop.com. which claims its website has received a high level of applications from students at major fashion educational institutions across the country.
"We've a lot of enquiries from students who are currently getting to grips with how to upload their portfolios on the website. It's been designed to be as straightforward and user friendly as possible, said LetsShop.com CEO Rod Gallagher.
The most impressive student on the night would receive a 12-month mentoring and promotional package valued at $100,000, to include advertising worth $1000 on LetsShop.com and work experience across all 10 industry professionals' organisations, Gallagher said.
At the time of press confirmed participating professionals included LetsShop.com editor Jill Gallagher, LMFF director Karen Webster, former Country Road CEO Michael Ford, Ragtradejobs.com director Natasha Zurnamer, fashion stylist Dhav Naidu, fashion agency owner Jon Laing and Australian Fashion Council head Zoe Edquist, while three further confirmations from the fashion design and publishing sectors were in the
