Hot trends for cool feet

Footwear has taken a new twist, with tartans, animal or reptile skins, embroidery, patent leather and photo graphics - or combinations of all these - breathing new life into wedge, platform soled or cone heeled shoes, round toe pumps and flats.

Ballet pumps remain a hot item, and, like high heeled shoes, are differentiated from previous seasons with the addition of over size bows or sculpted leather ornaments, while the luxe buckle, rings and "bling" story - along with metallic finishes and jewelled ornamentation - remains strong.

Shoes are also emerging in a host of directional colours including red, navy blue, aqua and pale grey, with many styles also available as two-toned contrasting stories.

Boots have re-invented themselves into striking hybrids; cowboy shapes are adorned with buckles and riding or biker boots have gained a softer, slouchy silhouette. Embroidery, worked leather and patchworks of unusual colour combinations including creams, whites or blues have also emerged, while the '80s-inspired ankle boot looks set to emerge as a hot look for the coming season.
