Myer awards to court suppliers
The Myer Supplier of the Year program kicked off this month, marking a significant move for the retailer in the wake of the appointment of CEO Bernie Brookes and the store's ownership change in June, confirmed Myer merchandising manager Philip Newton.
With judging taking place on a quarterly basis and culminating with an overall annual winner announced at a gala ball (the inaugural event is scheduled for October 2007) the awards would operate across all product categories, but would have a significant influence on Myer's fashion businss, Newton said.
"So far the response from our suppliers has been absolutely terrific. They're very enthusiastic about the initiative, which is really about Myer and its suppliers working together for the benefit of both, with the person who wins the most out of it being the customer."
Qualifying fashion divisions would include womenswear, menswear, Miss Shop and youth fashion, childrenswear, accessories, footwear and intimate apparel.
Fashion businesses would also be eligible for best overall supplier awards within the private brand and concession partner categories, Newton said.
"Major fashion suppliers outside the concession or private label businesses will be awarded points for first delivery to Myer, for introducing innovative schemes into their Myer operations or for product launch activities that would enhance both their own and the Myer brand.
"Private brands might be awarded points for improving their response times and speed to market, while concession businesses could gain recognition for the support they give to and the way they interact with the Myer business as a whole."
Ancillary categories such as supply chain and IT would also have a bearing on Myer's fashion offer.
Award winners would receive a trophy and plaque as well as less tangible but arguably more valuable rewards, he said.
"Winners will be noted in the national newspapers, which of course provides great publicity for brands or businesses that excel as suppliers."
