The Bold and the Beautiful

Fashion Exposed opened its doors to thousands of visitors last month. Assia Benmedjdoub gives her verdict on the hottest trends on show.

Feathered encounters: Despite three chilly September mornings, spring racing fever was in the air at Fashion Exposed. From feathered brooches to peacock feather fascinators, the sound of horse's hooves seemed to echo throughout the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

Supersize it: It was another case of "the bigger, the better" for totes, clutches and handbags. From fine leathers to bristly fibre bags, it was all about statement-making pieces.

Cynch it: Still popular after four consecutive seasons on show, waist belts were thicker and more embellished than ever before. Studded, oversized and metallic buckles gave the soft leathers belts a rock n roll feel.
Tailored Punk: While the jacket-and-jean formula was still a strong feature for menswear, the legendary combination was given a decidedly edgier look. Grey suits were accented with silver sheens and dull chequered patterns.
