Ballet flats with a French soul
Launched by London designer Jane Winkworth in 1980 and a favourite with celebrities Mischa Barton, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Sarah Jessica Parker, Claudia Schiffer and Elle Macpherson, the brand
also has a select following down under, according to Australian distributor Scarlet International.
"There is already a very strong demand for this label here, through a group of Aussies who know the brand and are very loyal to it. I think that following will grow quickly as the shoes are so wearable everyone will love them," said Scarlet International director Michelle Koh.
Made mainly in France as well as Italy and Spain from premium quality hide and fabrics, the brand - which specialises solely in ballet pumps - boasted a 30-year heritage built on a reputation for quality and design.
"Obviously there's a resurgence of interest in ballet flats at the moment and there are a lot of cheap copies out there. French Sole shoes look quite different from other product that's out there, because they fit so well."
Koh is currently showing a range of between 30 and 40 styles to retailers, although around 50 to 60 styles will be available to consumers by the time the shoes launch at retail next autumn/winter.
Despite the high end profile of the shoes - which retail at $198 to $550 - the sheer size of the range could support multiple stockists.
"There are so many styles to choose from including classic ballet pumps, pony skin or glitter detailed styles to the quilted toe Chanel style model, there is something to suit many different types of retailer."
With plans to promote the brand through editorials in leading consumer women's and fashion titles, Koh had no doubt that her personal passion for the brand would translate into strong consumer uptake.
"I've known about this brand for years, and I've loved it from the start."
