Designer gears up for a woolli summer
Australian womenswear label woolliwoolli has launched its first spring/summer collection titled "summer alchemy". While the brand exhibited its autumn/winter range at 2005 and 2006 Hong Kong Fashion Week, designer Josephine Nathan said she hoped to find greater national representation for her current line.
"The winter collections have been stocked in Melbourne-based boutiques such as Husk, Blondies, Scally and Trombone and Safade but I hope to find outlets nationally with the spring/summer collection. I feel that the average consumer is unaware of the beauty of merino, and I hope to introduce it to them in clothing they would want to wear."
Looking to target women aged between 25 and 40, the summer collection features a range of shift dresses, embellished tops, singlets, open cardigans, pants, mini skirts, tube dresses and a bikini made from a fine merino/lycra blend.
"It's a very functional, sensual and comfortable garment opening new doors for the use of the fabric," Nathan explained. "As early on as my student days at RMIT, the material stood out as a superior fibre and the fabrics created from merino always had a quality feel, they were unique in their look, handle and drape."
Featuring gold, bronze and ivory hues, Nathan said the range aimed to celebrate the colour, texture and touch of Australia's most exported fabric.
"My passion for merino, the craft of making fabric and the emotional effect of colour is instilled in every woolliwoolli piece making woolliwoolli something special and unique."
Manufactured in Australia, the summer line will retail from $60 to $450.
