SYDNEY: A print advertisement for iconic denim brand Levi's took top billing at the Magazine Publishers of Australia Folio Awards recently. The awards, which recognise creative excellence in magazine advertising, won the brand's advertising agency, The Furnace, a $15,000 cash prize. The campaign, titled deconstructed, also won the Fashion and Accessories category while a advertisement for shoe brand Clarks, by Cummins & Partners, was named runner-up.

PERTH: Western Australian males now have a new offering from which to source items for their wardrobe. British-born retailer Susan Williamson has opened a new upmarket menswear store, dubbed Men on Mends. Located at Shop 4, South Shore Piazza, Mend Street, South Perth, the store specialises in high-end corporate and casualwear. labels stocked include Calvin Klein, Ben Sherman, Italian Label Monza and Claudio Campione from Germany and prices range from $89 to $149. :Hong Kong in spotlight
HONG KONG: One of Asia's largest spring/summer fashion sourcing events, Hong Kong Fashion Week (HKFW), will take place July 11 to 14. Staged at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, the event hopes to celebrate its 13 anniversary by hosting in excess of 900 exhibitors and nearly 20,000 buyers. :Label joins fast lane
SYDNEY:Womenswear label Gordon Smith has appointed Fast Lane Publicity to promote its spring/summer 06/07 collection. Offering a range of 200 garments for work, weekend and evening wear, the brand is stocked in over 32 David Jones stores, 62 Myer departments and 500 boutiques throughout Australia and New Zealand. The ready to wear collection will feature wrap tops, dresses, pants, knitwear, skirts, shorts and jeans priced from $30 through to $200.
:Top honours for student
QUEENSLAND: Moreton TAFE student Melanie Watt secured first prize in the Young Designer category at the 2006 Jacob's Creek Cup 'Fashions on the Field'. The first event of its kind in Queensland, the competition attracted 20 entrants with all six finalists from Moreton TAFE's fashion and textiles division. Watt won the prize for her vintage inspired silk dress and matching fascinator while first-year student Tiffany Morotti secured the runner-up position.
:CGS gets socked
CGS Trading Australia, importer, distributor and supplier of Aussiesox has admitted to incorrectly labelling some of its products in respect to fibre content. The company misrepresented its range of 'Cotton Rich' socks as being made from 98 percent cotton when they had no more than 84.4 per cent. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has settled the matter by accepting court-enforcable undertakings from CGS director Won Mo Yoon.
