SYDNEY: Carla Zampatti has broken with Fashion Week tradition and unveiled her spring/summer 2010/11 collection in the most personal of venues: her home.
The veteran womenswear designer lifted the lid on her 50 piece collection yesterday (April 28) at a parade staged inside her east Sydney residence.
The launch comes just weeks after Zampatti's label made the move from its long-time home in Myer department store to rival David Jones.
The spring/summer collection combined drapery with sharp tailoring with suit separates and cocktail dresses among the staple designs.
Fabrics included organza, georgette, tulle and taffeta and the colour palette centred on soft whites, pinks, charcoals and metallic silver, with occasional bursts of bold reds and oranges.
Key pieces included a black and dusty pink tulle evening gown, a red georgette one shoulder drape dress and a cream georgette Grecian one shoulder evening gown.
Zampatti designed her first collection in 1965 and presently operates 14 Carla Zampatti stand alone boutiques. David Jones commenced stocking the label in February this year with the unveiling of Zampatti's autumn/winter 2010 collection.
