Yoshi Jones: tearing down walls
Sydney-based designer Yoshi Jones is on the expansion trail.
Jones, whose self-titled boutique specialises in unique clothing made from contemporary Japanese and vintage kimono fabrics, has purchased a new store and broadened her collection to include both a menswear and childrenswear line.
When the space next door to her present site in Newtown became available, Jones leapt at the opportunity to purchase it and has since knocked down the wall dividing the two properties.
Having effectively doubled the retail space available, Jones intends using one side of the store to continue stocking her existing womenswear ranges, targeted at women aged between 20 and 65 and manufactured locally by CY Trading and Truie Fabrics. The new space will be dedicated to showcasing her self-designed menswear and childrenswear collections, as well as the introduction of a new giftware range, designed in collaboration with partner Sally McCarthy.
Speaking just days after opening the new store, Jones said the menswear launch, which incorporates slimline shirts, shorts and t-shirts and retails at pricepoints of between $35 and $110, was a natural progression for the brand which first launched three years ago.
Once she had recovered from the excitement of opening the new store, she would investigate the feasibility of opening a second store in Melbourne, Jones said.
