SYDNEY: Network nine costume designer Rachel Hunt and fellow Raffles College of Design graduate Michelle Ullhorn dominated proceedings at Australian wool's night of nights in Sydney on April 15.
Competing in the 28th annual Australian Wool Fashion Awards, the duo took out five awards between them with Hunt taking home the Supreme Award for her wool, leather and crinoline gown.
In all around 350 entrants entered the annual competition that aims to promote the use of Australian merino wool.
Judges for this year's show, staged for the first time at the Sydney Royal Easter Show instead of its usual Armidale home, included Sydney designer Brigid McLaughlin, Darnell Collection owner Charlotte Smith and Et Cetera publicity founder Karyn Westren.
Award founder Liz Foster said more than 70 prizes were awarded to finalist entries across 11 categories including secondary school student, tertiary student, knitwear, woven, reassigned wool, sportswear, evening and bridalwear.
For her efforts Hunt, who also took out the eveningwear award, won a work experience placement with couture designer Alex Perry. Ullhorn, who was placed second in the tertiary category and first in the woven and knitwear categories, won a placement with Gordon Smith.
