Wider winter for Kathmandu

Kathmandu has revealed its expanded apparel product range will be unveiled in May 2011.

The outdoorwear and equipment retailer hinted in its first-year results as a listed company that the 2010/11 year would see an “accelerated” expansion of the product range.

Kathmandu general manager of business development and sustainability, Paul Stern, confirmed changes to both apparel and equipment categories would come into effect for winter 2011.

While Stern declined to nominate what new product would be welcomed into the Kathmandu stable, he said the expansion was part of the brand's broader strategies to grow its Australian and New Zealand operations.

Other growth initiatives referenced by the company in its first-year results include an ongoing store rollout program, with four new Australian stores confirmed for 2010/11, as well as regular refurbishments and relocations.

Kathmandu is also hoping for second-year sales growth in the 15 stores it opened in 2009/10. CEO Peter Halkett said he was confident the company could improve
its profitability.

“We continue to target a total store network of at least 150 locations in Australia and New Zealand, and we will explore further opportunities for expansion in these markets as they arise,” Halkett said.
