Norwood is a trendy east end suburb in Adelaide which is ten minutes drive from the central business district. The town's main shopping strip The Parade has a thriving European cafe culture and is rich with cultural heritage, specialty shops, cafes and restaurants.
The Parade is one of Adelaide's premier food, entertainment and sporting precincts. Other attractions include pubs, galleries, theatre and cinemas.
Kathleen Barry, owner of children's wear store Babes on Parade, says Norwood has a bustling retail district with a large variety of stores catering to a multitude of shoppers.
"Norwood has a long established shopping area," says Barry.
"There's a lot of diversity in the shopping here. Most people don't have to go into town [Adelaide's CBD] because you can get just about everything here in Norwood."
Barry adds that Norwood also has a buzzing nightlife which attracts a younger crowd to the area.
Babes on Parade has been trading in the town for approximately 21 years and Barry ,who has owned it for the past 14 years, says that her loyal customer base has kept her business thriving.
"I have a long term clientele. Many customers who once came into my shop and bought for their own children are now coming in to buy for their grandchildren."
Babes on Parade stocks clothing from newborns up to size eight in brands such as Peter Rabbit, Little Pumpkin and Small Potatoes. A selection of furniture, manchester, gifts and accessories such as socks, hats, hair accessories are also available.
John Threadgold, owner of Jonathan George Menswear, says Norwood is a trendy strip shopping centre rich in culture and diversity.
"Norwood is very cosmopolitan," he says.
"There's a lot of cafes and restaurants. There is a strong European flavour out here."
Threadgold says a major benefit of owning a store in the town is it's close proximity to Adelaide's CBD.
"Norwood is only ten minutes drive to the city. It is easy to get to by public transport so it's quite accessible."
Threadgold also says that Norwood is starting to attract a younger population and a lot of new buildings are going up to reflect this change.
"Demographically, Norwood probably used to be a more of an older populated area but it is becoming younger now," says Threadgold.
"Younger families are starting to move in. There are a lot of older heritage type homes in the area but there is also a lot of townhouses and units that have gone up in the last few years."
Jonathan George Menswear caters to men aged 30 years and up stocking brands such as Flair, Van Heusen, Summit and Reversal. A selection of cufflinks, ties, socks and underwear are also available.
