SYDNEY: Ethical label Monkey and the Brown Man is tapping into viral marketing to launch its first women’s fashion range to the public.
The Sydney-based independent brand is embracing social networking site Facebook to promote and sell its new eleven-piece offer. A 70’s inspired Polaroid photo-shoot campaign, along with video clips of a model in the clothing are being circulated on the site.
Monkey and the Brown Man co-owner Stacey Brown said the idea was to generate interest in the fledgling brand and drive customers towards its e-commerce portal.
The brand is accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia due to its local Australian manufacturing at factories which meet high industry standards. It was launched in April 2009 as a T-shirt range for men and women and is now increasing its offer to include dresses, skirts and other tops.
Brown said the made-to-order concept also increased the environmental credentials of the label, as it meant less waste product was created.
It recently picked up its first international stockist in the Netherlands.
Ethical Clothing Australia assists local textile, clothing and footwear businesses to help ensure that Australian workers making their products receive fair wages and work in decent conditions. It does this through an accreditation and labelling system that provides consumers and buyers with a way to identify and support ethically made Australian textile, clothing and footwear products.
