MELBOURNE: Victoria designers provided both the winning and losing entries in the latest challenge faced by Project Runway Australia 2 contestants.
In an episode that aired on pay television last night (July 30) 25-year-old design assistant Anthony Capon took out top honours and was awarded with immunity for the next challenge.
Meanwhile fellow Melburnians stylist Amber Renae and men's tailor Ryan Whelan were sent home in the episode's shock double elimination.
Contestants were taken to Melbourne Zoo where they were informed that, working in groups of three, they were to each create a separate outfit inspired by an animal.
Each designer was given a budget of just $70 and eight hours to complete the challenge with Capon's team inspired by lions, Renae's reflecting a butterfly and Whelan's group giving a nod to the zebra.
Judges, including buyer Sarah Gale, designer Jayson Brunsdon, host Kristy Hinze and guest judge Arthur Galan, told the losing pair neither of their looks reflected part of a collection.
Gale said it was obvious Whelan, who had been forced to change his design at the last minute by his team captain, was neither happy with the direction he had received nor his completed garment.
"As a designer to have to be able to say this is my work and I stand by it," she said.
Hinze described Renae's outfit as out-dated.
"While elements of your dress were impressive, the construction was questionable and the overall look out-dated. We were expecting something new but what we got was a dress stuck in the past."
Seven contestants now remain in the running to win the event - which offers the season two winner a car, a six-page spread in Madison magazine and a $100,000 cash injection to invest in showing their label at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.
The contestants still vying for the prize include Capon, Mark Neighbour, Kellyanne Russell, Lauren Vieyra, Yopie Starfurik, Michael Finch and Williams Lazootin.
