NATIONAL: Iconic footwear label Ugg looks set to re-think its UK export strategy following the closure of the country's leading distributor of the brand.

According to reports in UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph, UK footwear importer Kate Kuba went into administration last week, closing all of its nine London stores and ceasing online trade.

Kate Kuba – which had only recently opened a store in the newly unveiled Westfield London shopping centre development in White City - sold a range of brands including Diesel Style Lab, Camper and its own label as well as the Ugg boot brand.

The company is the latest casualty of the UK's economic downturn, which during 2008 claimed around 30 high street retailers including footwear chain Dolcis and menswear chain The Officers Club.

Ugg was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
