QUEENSLAND: Wedding gown designer Pina Fiorenza received three awards at the Queensland Brides Design Awards, ahead of the release of her 2011 collection.
The long standing designer won both first prize and runner up for dresses entered into the Avant Garde category. She also received second place in the Classique division.
Both the Supreme Award and Couture Award went to Wendy Makin Bridal Couture, the People’s Choice Award went to Marwa Elkadi and the Bride Nouveau winner was Brides Desire by Airs & Graces.
Fiorenza has been designing for 20 years and supplies gowns under the Fiorenza label to 35 Australian stockists. Vintage lace, hand beading, delicate silks and organza tulle are key to the look.
The 2011 collection comprises 22 dresses, which draw inspiration from the 1920’s and 1950’s film icons.
“I was inspired by that old-fashioned simplicity, luxury and femininity synonymous with the likes of Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner,” she said.
The range will go into boutiques in late November.
The Queensland Brides Design Awards were part of the Queensland Brides Wedding and Honeymoon Expo last weekend.
