NATIONAL: The Council of Textile and Fashion Industries of Australia (TFIA) continues to back key elements of the TCF Report in the face of market crackdowns.

The TFIA has urged that that the Ethical Quality Mark and National Sizing Standard recommended by Professor Roy Green in his 'Building Innovative Capability' report should not be abandoned in the current economic climate.

At a roundtable discussion of industry stakeholders with government representatives earlier this month Jo Kellock, Council of Textile & Fashion Industries of Australia executive director, said both were critical in developing Australian industry.

She also emphasised the importance of funding these projects to ensure a strong industry rather than directing funds to individual firms.

The Ethical Quality Mark was a means to test imported goods for substances banned from use by Australian manufacturers, Kellock said, adding it could be used to build the reputation of Australian manufacturers in the domestic and global marketplaces.

Kellock also highlighted an ongoing need to push for the development of a National Sizing Standard to establish opportunities for Australian manufacturers domestically and internationally.
