MELBOURNE:A leading global specialist in product lifecycle management (PLM) systems is claiming Australian fashion businesses could be revolutionised by its offer.
US based Dassault Systèmes is to hold a seminar titled "PLM: The Fabric of Innovation" on February 10 in Melbourne, with a view to promoting its apparel-based technology to the Australasian market.
Tamara Saucier, Dassault Systèmes director industry strategy - retail solutions, confirmed this was the first such seminar offered in the Australasian region, adding its purpose was to "evangelise" about the benefits of Dassault Systèmes' offer.
This comprised "an enterprise solution for apparel design and development through supply and production that can help [businesses] go to market quicker, by taking products from trend, to design, to sourcing, to manufacturing and to the customer within a single, collaborative environment."
"This technology allows globally dispersed companies to operate within a single environment. It eliminates duplicate efforts, optimises resources and enhances time to market," she said, adding these benefits were critical in times of down turn and increasing environmental consciousness.
As a "thought leader" wholesaler Pacific Brands was the only company in the Australasian apparel market to have adopted the program so far, Saucier said, adding it was understood uptake would increase significantly once the technology's benefits became apparent.
Pacific Brands last year purchased Dassault's Enovia Apparel Accelerator PLM solution to streamline its apparel design and sourcing processes. Implemented by Dassault Systèmes’ technology partner Imag Australia, the solution would help Pacific Brands manage the flow of design information, by fostering collaboration between its design facilities and suppliers.
Pacific Brands general manager, integrated services, Tom Dalianis - who will present at the February 10 seminar - said the company had adopted the new technology because of its ability to "help us migrate from a disparate business environment to a fully integrated product lifecycle platform which will promote great organisational collaboration and best practices."
"With this technology we will be able to deliver greater efficiency in the development of new products and lines, maximise cost savings in sourcing and leverage parallel processing to improve speed to market."
"PLM: The Fabric of Innovation" will take place from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm on February 10 at the Como centre, 630 Chapel Street, Melbourne.
