Tech network to boost innovation
The Council of Textile and Fashion Industries (TFIA) has launched a network to enhance Australian companies' access to TCF technology and innovation.
The TCF Technology Network is expected to improve the linkages between TCF companies, research bodies and financial providers on a domestic and international level.
TFIA executive director Ashley Van Krieken said the project would actively match companies, researchers and financiers through the establishment of an interactive database.
The network would also undertake a range of activities - including educational seminars and networking forums - with the purpose of opening up the culture of innovation in the industry.
In addition, through the network's educational forum and technology brokering service Australian companies would gain a greater role in the worldwide commercialisation of innovative technologies, Van Krieken said.
The network will also allow Australian innovations to be showcased overseas and international innovation to be introduced to Australia.
Trevor Thomas, strategic programs director of national TCF consultancy TCF Services, welcomed the initiative.
"Most companies have to visit textile trade fairs in Europe in order to keep up to date with innovations. If the network brought information on advancements in technology closer to the Australian industry at a lower cost, there would clearly be an advantage."
