SYDNEY: A new Australian men’s tie label is set to challenge the way people view pre-knotted ties. Bexter will launch at Fashion Exposed in Melbourne later this month with a collection of 40 pre-knotted, 100 per cent silk tie styles, in various colours, patterns and checks.
Brand general manager Mat Lock said there was a stigma attached to the style, often referred to as a clip-on, but he was determined to remedy old fashioned perceptions.
“When I wear one then take it off to show a sample, people have no idea I was wearing one,” he said. “They are modern, fashionable and trendy, not major statements. Just nice, smart ties. They suit the office and formal situations.”
This is Lock’s first foray into the fashion realm after years in the corporate arena. He said he hoped to secure Australian agents for the brand before launching into the UK and later the US, and aimed to stock in department stores but was open to boutique buyers.
There will be two styles in the launch collection, corporate and executive, all tied in half-windsor knots. Future collections may include full windsor styles. Manufactured in Thailand, the range will retail at around $90.
“They are a fast and efficient option,” he said. “In warmer climates these ties are cooler and less restrictive as they don’t go around the neck.”
In addition to wholesale, the label is soon to launch a transactional website for independent purchases.
