SYDNEY: The history of swimwear is celebrated in a new exhibition about to be staged at the Australian Maritime Museum (AMM).

The exhibition draws on the museum's collection of historical swimwear to show how the modern swimsuit changed bathing into swimming and helped redefine perceptions of the body.

Speedo, Black Lance and Paula Stafford are just of the older labels whose items are featured in the July 2 to October 25 exhibit while Zimmermmann, Seafolly, Tigerlily and Aussiebum also play a part.

AMM spokesperson Shirani Anththas said the 'Exposed - The Story of Swimwear' event would be a travelling exhibition and would head to Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, Wagga Wagga and Newcastle after Sydney.
