MELBOURNE: Cotton On and Catherine Manuell have collaborated with a group of visual merchandising students to create innovative new window displays.
Students from RMIT University’s visual merchandising course were provided with a brief to create a strong brand statement for each label. They then designed, manufactured and installed a window and in-store concept within a set time schedule and budget.
For Cotton On, the team created a Gilligan’s Island themed installation for the brand’s Richmond childrenswear store. It incorporates eco-friendly design and will remain on display until Friday November 5.
For accessory and luggage label Catherine Manuell, the students worked with product from the brand’s spring/summer 2010 catalogue. Themed “Sculptural and Modern Floral”, the display is currently on at RMIT Building 94 in Carlton, until November 13.
RMIT Visual Merchandising teacher Sue Robinson organised the project and said it was a major benefit to students to work with leading Australian brands.
“The industry-directed project has been a hugely beneficial learning experience for our students,” she said.
