NATIONAL: Emerging fashion designers have the chance to snare $10,000 in cash and travel, as well as mentorship from Australian label Zimmermann.
Entries open today for the The Qantas Spirit Of Youth Awards 2010 (SOYA), with designers under the age of 30 eligible to take part.
Interested creatives are invited to submit their work to the grants program, with the prize comprising $5000 in cash, $5000 in Qantas flights and a 12-month mentorship with Zimmmernan directors Nicky and Simone Zimmerman.
In addition to fashion, the competition also covers the categories of film, visual arts, visual communications, music, industrial and object design and photography. Experts from each field will provide the appropriate mentorship.
It is the seventh year of the program, with previous fashion winners including labels Friedrich Gray, Antipod!um and Romance Was Born.
Entries close on August 9, with all submissions to be made through the SOYA website. Winners will be announced at an awards night on November 11 at the Foundation Hall of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
In 2009, SOYA received around 10,000 entries across all of the categories.
